The Vegan Diet Gets Put To The Test On TV!

I love hearing about tv shows promoting really healthful and beneficial information that can truly help people. And very economically and fast, too. Dr. Oz is a doctor who does just that. He’s explained to people about alternative medicine, yoga, nutrition – especially from plants – what a standard American diet does to our bodies, how our organs look when we die from different diseases, etc. Now he has his own show and he put a meat-lovin’ cowboy, Rocco, on a 28 day vegan diet to reverse his bad heart disease and diabetes. No meds were involved, just plant based foods and exercise. Rocco decided to follow the program for the month because his only other option would be to do nothing and die relatively soon from having 97% plaque build up in his arteries. He’s a 53 yr old man walking around with the heart of an 85 yr old!

Well, the results in just 28 days are astounding! You have to see this follow up clip of Rocco’s results:

See? We don’t need to be drugged up and spending a fortune on prescription meds that barely keep the health problems in check and that would have to be taken for the rest of our lives (not to mention the scary side effects that come with the drugs) when a simple, earth-friendly and very economical change in diet coupled with some exercise (Rocco walks) can do the same thing and do it permanently. This way of eating REVERSES these diseases over time!

Ann Cooper on School Lunches

Here is a Ted Video of Ann Cooper of the Berkeley, CA school system giving a talk about what she’s done and how she has changed the way kids eat school lunches. She teaches cooking classes for kids, shows them where food comes from, and has basically overhauled everything including a pie chart of what should be on a child’s plate for meals, etc. Her talk is very informative and passionate and I loved it. I feel just like she does about this subject and was so happy to see someone here in America making a difference like this and also supporting the local farmers, educating everyone on child health through good nutrition, the dangers of chemicals in our food especially on a child’s body, growing gardens at school, etc. A great video and clearly a great woman.

Republicans For Obama

This is pretty cool. I just saw this video on the Huffington Post and read the article and basically, this democrat, Eric Hirschberg, filmed these life long republicans explaining why they are breaking with their party and voting for Obama. Yes On Prop 2

I feel all beings need to be treated compassionately and culled humanely if you eat them. If you live in California, please vote YES on Prop. 2 – the humane treatment of factory farm animals. It seems insane that we even have to vote on this. I hope all states adopt legislation regarding eradicating the cruel and inhumane treatment of factory farm animals. Not able to barely move, turn around or spread their wings is cruel and we would never do this to our pets so why do we do this to other animals?

The NY Times gave a full endorsement of Prop 2 last week. Here is an excerpt that was posted on Vegan.com:

You will never in your life, on any topic, see a newspaper editorial give stronger support to a ballot initiative than this endorsement of Proposition 2 appearing in today’s New York Times. The first and last paragraphs:

The goal of the California Prevention of Farm Animal Cruelty Act — Proposition 2 on the state’s November ballot — sounds extremely modest. It would ban the confinement of animals in a way that keeps them from being able to stand, sit, lie down, turn around and extend their limbs. The fact that such fundamental decencies have to be forced upon factory farming says a lot about its horrors. We urge California voters to pass Proposition 2. We urge every state to enact similar laws…

To a California voter still undecided on Proposition 2, we say simply, imagine being confined in the voting booth for life. Would you vote for the right to be able to sit down and turn around and raise your arms? Link

Defenders of Wildlife Palin Commercial

Defenders of Wildlife, a non-profit organization that I’ve been a member of for many years came out with this commercial recently regarding Sarah Palin’s record as governor regarding wildlife in her state. Mind you, the wolves were still on the endangered species list when she approved this. What I want to know is – Why???

As governor, Sarah Palin…

Proposed paying a $150 bounty for the left foreleg of each dead wolf.
Approved a $400,000 state-funded propaganda campaign to promote aerial hunting.
Introduced legislation to make it even easier to use aircraft to hunt wolves and bears.

I hope you will take a look at this PSA for Californians regarding an important upcoming vote although it’s something we all need to know about. Hopefully one day it will become an American law, not just a California law – The Prevention Of Farm Animal Cruelty Act.

As Doris Day (actress and huge animal lover) says, “Know Compassion, Know Peace.” We are what we eat.

Mark Bittman, a NY Times food and cooking columnist and best selling cookbook author spoke at TED last year about the link between our food and global warming, environmental degradation, and human health problems. His talk is really well done and is worth watching.

Organic vs. Conventionally Grown – What’s the Difference?

Kevin Gianni from Renegade Health shows a nice visual of what the difference is between organically grown and conventionally grown produce. Especially important to remember is about the little kids – the chemicals effect them even moreso than an adult and builds up fast in their little bodies.

If you eat conventional produce, make sure it has a peel or removable skin on it like bananas and avocados. Check out EWG’s Guide To Pesticides In Produce to see the chart from the highest (peaches) to the lowest (onions) in chemical residue. I think Kevin’s image in the video above is enough to make anyone think twice about what they are actually allowing to go into their bodies to nourish their cells. Do you think those chemicals nourish your cells – or maybe do something else?!
