Getting Children To Eat Their Veggies
November 14th, 2007 -- Posted in Health, Leif, Mel, glyconutrients, herbal remedies, nutrition, organics, parenting | No Comments »My son is a very picky eater. He also had reflux and colic. I have worried about his eating since he was a baby and starting on solids. He is built like his dad, tall and lean. Those damn charts at the doctor’s office always worried me bec. he was always in the lower to maybe mid-range of the percentiles with weight and I always felt like I was starving my kid. I tried everything to get him to eat more until one day someone told me about Glyconutrients. I researched this nutritional supplement and it basically helps your cells “talk” to each other correctly no matter what issues the body is dealing with so that the body can do it’s job correctly.
In my case, it was my son’s very little ability to gain much weight. I immediately put him on the “Manna Bears” product that they had for kids which is a gummi bear that had the glyconutrients and lots of dehydrated veggies and fruits (food he would hardly eat). Within the first 2 weeks of eating only 4 little Manna Bears a day, he started to gain weight. He also wanted to eat more and even try some new things. He seemed happier too, probably bec. his body was assimilating needed nutrients into his cells.
I’m happy to say, he is a very healthy boy and he is still eating (and loving) his beloved “bears” everyday and weighs over 30 pounds at 3.5 yrs. old.
An associate of mine, Dr. Tom Taliaferro wrote an amazing blog post about this product and I am reposting it here bec. I feel the info is very important to know:
As a parent with two school aged children, I know how difficult it can be to ensure my children are eating well. Getting them to eat veggies, fruits, and take a quality vitamin can be a challenge. Glyconutrients, once found in food, are absent.
As a doctor, I see the results of less than optimal diets in my office everyday.
An observation over 9 years in practice is that every child who has been diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder/Hyperactivity, besides being vaccinated, does not eat a diet that contains ample amounts of fruits, vegetables, and glyconutrients.
With convenience being more important to families, the poor supply of nutrient rich fruits and vegetables in the market, unwillingness of children to eat foods that do not appeal to them, we have a crisis.
A published study compared the nutritional value of 2 peaches. To get the nutritional value of the same peaches in 1951, today you would have to eat 53.
With government recommendations of eating 10-12 servings of fruits and vegetables now the standard, it’s no wonder our children are missing vital nutrients. Only 1% of Americans eat the recommended amounts of nutritious food, and still lack in receiving all of the vital nutrients they need.
Our fruits and vegetables are green harvested. That means they are harvested before the plants vital nutrients, and vitamins reach the leaf of the plant. This usually occurs within the last 3 days or so of the plants season. Plants are grown in nutrient deficient soil with fertilizer and pesticides added – extra flavor I’m sure.
The Bible tells us to toil a field once for 6 years then let it rest for 1.
Today, as many as 3-4 harvests are expected for a field of veggies or fruits each year. Unfortunately there are little if any natural nutrients found in dirt these days. No longer are farm’s fields of dreams, they are fields of disease.
Mannatech understood the problem and developed a solution. A solution that has impacted children world wide. MannaBears. MannaBears are gummie bears that contain more vegetables and fruits than all you would normally eat in a month. Broccoli, brussels sprouts, carrots, cauliflower, kale, cabbage, tomato, turnip, papaya, pineapple juice, and pomegranate juice.
So your dentist doesn’t have a fit as with other gummie bear products, MannaBears have xylitol, evaporated cane juice, and tapioca syrup.
Xylitol by the way does not promote dental caries and is the sugar of choice these days. You really do need to avoid the others when developing a product for children.
In addition to what sets MannaBears apart from every other children’s supplement is the addition of glyconutrients. No other nutritional company in the world has glyconutrients added to their children’s line.
But then, no other company is Mannatech!
Glyconutrients are required for cell to cell communication, and for the proper structure and function of every cell in the body. Glyconutrients support the immune system.
At least with MannaBears and our chewable mutliple vitamin and mineral supplement GlycoBears, you can be assured your children are getting ample amounts of fruits and vegetables daily.
The cost? MannaBears cost as low as $.67us/day, and GlycoBears cost as low as $.62us/day.
