Day Out With Thomas
Last Saturday we went to Day out with Thomas at the Colorado Railroad Museum. Boy does my son love this place and love to see Thomas live and in person. We spent about 4 hours there and what a money maker that event is. Full bus loads of people in and out of that place all day long. Wow. And a huge tent full of Thomas merchandise on everything imaginable and not cheap, either. Besides that, Leif was really overjoyed to spend time there again. Me, I can skip it next year esp. if he has outgrown the Thomas phenomena. I don’t do so well in large crowds and heat.
They really do put on a nice show and all the little events all over the grounds is fun for the kids. We went to the puppet show, the sing along area, the petting zoo, the check out a cool fire truck with the attractive firemen area, get a tatoo area and saw all of the old trains parked all over the museum grounds. His favorite area (besides riding on the Thomas train of course) was watching the outdoor model trains drive around the tracks. That was a nice set up like last year, too and we spent alot of time at that bec. Leif wouldn’t leave. He also got to push the lever that spins the turn table / roundabout thing with a train on it. He loved that.
When Sir Topham Hatt came out to take pix with the kids, Leif freaked out. He made us pick him up and would not go near him for a picture. So strange how some kids loved going up to him and some freaked like Leif did. Kind of like getting your pix taken with Santa. He hates that, too. So, I got a picture of Topham Hatt without my kid in it.
We were so tired that after the train ride you can line up to get your pix taken in front of Thomas which we did last year and this year we both completely forgot to do this for Leif! I was bummed, I wanted to get some good shots with my new camera of Leif and his beloved Thomas. Oh well.
When we took a lunch break, I noticed what they were selling esp. for kid’s meals and I kind of knew it would be mostly crap so I packed some good stuff from home to bring. They ate a slice of pizza but everything else was from home so no crap, per se for my guys or me.
When I looked around at families around us, I could not believe my eyes at what parents allow their kids to eat/drink. Clearly I am a sheltered woman in this area bec. I was dumbfounded and kept staring in disbelief! Sure, it was a special occasion / event and I break down and give my kid stuff I wouldn’t normally give him at parties, etc but since he is so picky with food anyway, I brought nutritious food he will eat. Some of these kids were eating those “Uncrustables” sandwiches and cheetos and fake juice kind of drinks (they sold this there, eww). Some people I saw pouring coca-cola into sippy cups!! This totally grossed me out for some reason worse than the cheetos / uncrustables processed, hydrogenated oils fake food crap. Ugh. There are 17 teaspoons of sugar and caffeine in a can of coke, why does a freaking toddler need that in their bodies? How about some water they were selling instead? I just really hope it wasn’t diet soda bec. that nutrasweet stuff will kill you, no joke. I can just imagine what a toddler’s body would do to get it out of it’s system or the raging headache that would happen soon after. Needless to say, there were alot of random screaming, crying kids all over the place there. Think there might be a connection? Hmm.
Besides that, we had a really nice day with our boy, yet again. He loves to explore and check out new stuff and I’m glad we got to do a special event just for him bec. we’ve been dragging him all over lately, lots of hiking in diff. places and he’s been a real trooper with all of it.

My shocker was how people spoke to their kids. Why pay all that money for a special day only to make your kids feel like crap!? Not that I’m perfect…but really! We had fun yesterday too!
